NYFW Adam Selman 17/18 “Roses are red”

I was not too fond of this collection, I guess I always expect this designer to surprise me like he always does. I know that embroidered garments and bell bottoms is in style now now but I guess I expected more for 17/18.I find his muse Rihanna  to be an inspiration for this ready to wear collection.

Were talking about the designer who created costumes and looks for world tours for Michael Jackson, Lady gaga, Britney Spears, Rupaul, Mick Jagger, The scissors sisters, And of course Rihanna and her River island retail brand.

Denim, metallic dark blue, red passion, is the colors mainly used in this collection. A great comeback for denim lovers. Bell bottom with long button down dresses,  belts  as a detail to accentuate the waist line. I understood the concept of the rose but as far as the direction he took had me a little lost. The messy hair bun, grease button down neckline and plaid seem to added to the very informal casual collection that can please lots of women who are just looking for something basic and not too over the edge.

NYFW Tadashi Shoji 17/18 “Love revolution”

This American based Japanese fashion designer is well know for his red carpet gowns and evening dresses when it comes to dressing all types of women, from all age range and a diverse ethnic group of clients and celebrities, his fashion sense  is on point .

Some of his well known clients is Oscar winner Octavia spencer, Dita Von Tease, and Kate Beckinsale. He uses a lot of figure flattering techniques ( draping, ruching, shutter pleats).

I find his 17/18 collection very wearable  high end classy, rock star, glam. A nice blend of  70s Mick Jagger, Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Nicks with a touch of a goddess and renegade who isn’t afraid of live colors such as hot pink, passion red, electric purple and blue, in such textiles as see through, or velvet. For a bold woman who has her own way of defining femininity.

The bell sleeve and long v neck was repeatedly used to reinforce the garments quality cut and designs. Loved the electric blue, floral silk embroidery and the use of fuchsia to blend with the Forrest green tone. I can easily see Florence and the machine wear a beautiful gown from this designer. Be on the look out for his next collection, its always intriguing.

NYFW Erin Fetherstone 17/18

This American designer born in San Francisco “Bay area”, Who is also the wife of Gabe Saporta  also known as  the primary creative force behind the group “Cobra Starship”, is a trend setter  when it comes to style, simplicity, and comfort for her 17/18 collection. You can find her fashion line in places like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Barneys in the States and Asia. This collection  can easily identify with  a person that’s looking for a light fresh flowy look for the upcoming  season. brown, burgundy, pastel pink, hunter green.12-robert-rodriguez-fall-2017f14008da54116c6579418c08d96f6fe0.jpg

Perfect If you are looking for a loose fit .  The layers, shinny details/ prints and tassels  allows the wind to play with the garments, with very little use of floral prints and velvet. This collection can be easily worn for your day to day , work , dinner, or cocktail event.06-robert-rodriguez-fall-2017

The thing I like about this designer is that she allows her designs to be practical and useful for the average woman who is looking to stand out but yet be simple. The models had very little light, fresh morning day makeup with very light wave hair. It was seductive, feminine,  with out having to overdo. A very nice collection for the 17/18 season.

NYFW Desigual 17/18

This collection was mainly about the use of darkness to play with the light. It tried to stir away from the usual fun, happy, vivid, crazy colors, mixture of patterns and textures to captivate a different kind of client and audience. Informal washed out jeans, studs, punk accessories, dark blue, burgundy, black, plaid, and a mix between punk rock and glam was kind of the idea they had going for this collection. It can effect the fans who are used to seeing a more risky use of colors and patterns but yet gain a diverse clientele and fan base. The patterns didn’t stand out as much as the accessories. I was never a fan of desigual I usually tell people who have interest in it to play with desigual. With desigual  you can wear the shirt, shoes, bag or jeans but not the complete outfit, or else it sort of looks tacky and  obsessive, as if you have no clue how to dress on your own and make out your own identity from head to toe, either that or you are a real fan of this brand. This collection made me feel like a teenager with an identity crisis. Its not a bad thing, depending on who you are.

Lots of mini backpacks and puffs around the small purses. goth teen spirit meets the loner punk youthful school girl. a different approach on desigual to expand.

I see this brand growing because of the risk it likes to take. This is what a lot of brands are afraid of now and days. so get ready for the next desigual collection. its always a surprise with desigual.

59th Grammy red carpet critique….the good, the bad, the ugly…..

Watching the Grammys red carpet I realized the majority of the Hollywood music and acting  industry has no clue where to stand in the fashion industry. Forward?, Backwards? , is it a lack of interest?, lack of  effort to dress to impress?, did all of the stylists go on a strike?.

“A lot of nothing is what came to mind”.Nothing I haven’t seen before and nothing out of this world. I understand that at the Grammys you don’t have to dress so formal but its actually the best part, not having to dress to please anybody. being able to wear something you can identify with, which is a very crucial but at the same time beneficial moment for your image. its one of the most informal awards of Hollywood, but those of us who are fans and fashionistas need some food for our eyes, some ideas. I cant comment on every dress I thought was horrendous but I will name some. And I will rate them from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best.

Lady Gaga = Alex Ulichny …A huge zero, hot mess …. we understand she is trying to transmite body acceptance but she went at it the wrong way , it wasn’t  a gaga style, it wasn’t unique, it didn’t do justice to her figure or her style. it looked pretty cheap and attention seeking….. I give her a 1 …next please.

Faith Hill = Beautiful , although I feel like I have seen her with something similar. The red from head to toe looked perfect on her. sexy yet classy I give her an 8.

Tinashe = The dress was ok , but it didn’t stand out. she’s not very well known in Hollywood so being an up an coming or growing artist/rising star I would of wore something with more colors or that stood out instead of a prom dress. the only thing that stood out in this vera wang dress is the cut. its a good dress but once again if you want people to remember that they saw tinashe at the grammys maybe another choice of cut and color would of been good for the grammys. I give her a 7.

Adele= Givenchy Haute Couture. The dress didn’t drive me crazy, it was alright. the green looks very good on her  but the design of the dress to me seems very medieval . kind of looks like Marie Antoinette’s assistant, you know the girl that lifts her dress and adjust it, to keep it from getting dirty or having marie trip and fall. I give adele an 8. she has a beautiful figure, even if she covers up she can still find cuts, prints and textures that can favor her style.

Rihanna =wearing an Armani Prive dress.  I really like it. Its her style and I respect that, When you think of Rih Rih  you think of something that will expose her tattoo and her bad gal ways , I see it as her. she looked very beautiful in it . she has a good sense of style when it comes to self identification. she knows what she wants or at least the person who dresses her knows how to  work with her image. its a bad gal in a gown. I give her a 9.

jennifer-lopezJennifer Lopez= She looked nice. although to me this dress is more of a summer event dress. a nice wine, green, or blue would of went well with her for this season. I give her 7. It was nothing I haven’t seen before from jlo . I don’t know if this year the idea of fashion was repetion lol.

Celine Dion = Zuhair Murad Couture dress. All I can think of is Christmas or Batman plant lady.  The cut and design was good, but I kind of wish it was Black, gold, navy blue, or red. I give her a 7.

Katy Perry =Tom Ford dress, I give her a 5. Its very Katy Perry but its not doing her any justice. Maybe if she would of had her hair in a bun, clean, with a nice clutch bag ( she is posing with out a clutch with both of her hands on her waist, a very ugly pose for this kind of dress) she could of even had a nice belt instead of placing her hands to make her figure stand out. I think its ostrich hair on the dress? I don’t like where it starts, it can make her look like she has a rectangle shape waist when she doesn’t, that’s why she probably should of considered a belt. But then it wouldn’t look right with a turtle neck…and she has a great body… katy-perry Solange Knowles =Dress by Gucci. Beautiful. she made Gucci proud, I give her a 10. Perfect.

Taraji P. Henson = Dress by Marc Jacobs. Not her size …looks uncomfortable… where’s her clutch bag( details can make a big difference). I give her a 7. The color was good.

Andrea Day = Wearing a peach summer, Austin powers 70s flower power love interest….. ” no ..I give her a 1….. next please”

Crissy Teiggen=  Roberto Cavalli gown…Perfect…  the dress suited her well, I give her a 9. you can tell she’s still working on her body after having a child that’s why she wore something that would take attention off the stomach, dark and give the effect of an hour glass shape body.

Kat Graham=I liked this dress , she looked good in it. Very classy and clean. It made her look taller. I give her a 9. although she forgot her clutch.

Carrie Underwood =In a Elie Madi dress. Beautiful  I give her a 10, although she also forgot to take a small clutch with her …. or the assistant is holding it.

Halsey=  by Chistian Wijnants I think she got the wrong invitation. It was not a sleepover party, it was the grammys…. either that or she was trying to pay honors to TLC Creep music video… its not cutting it. I give her a  big 1. Terrible …

Demi Lovato =  In Julien Mcdonald . Its more of a summer informal dress … I just don’t see her with it … but I give her a  6. A little too much and no clutch.demi-lovato

Charlie XCX = Vivien Westwood. One of my favorite grammy dresses . Stunning and elegant although  she isn’t wearing a clutch neither… I give her a 10.

Paris Jackson = The dress was ok … but it would of been better if she had picked up her hair. with a clean pull back bun the dress would of stood out. I give her a 6 . you can tell she has a lot to learn about fashion .

I can go on forever but we need to touch on other fashion topics so I will end this with Ceelo Green … ”You are your own Grammy”.

#Workflow With #Loveflow

Love my job, love working with fashion lines that challenges ones creativity as far as the use of tropical cool colors in in the cold season and textures that are so different but well blended together to make a fashionable statement. when ever I get a chance to work with Custo Barcelona I find a fun moment to learn and expand in the creativity department. A Spanish fashion line that has been around since 1981. one of the founders of European/Spanish  fashion lines. One of the first designers from Europe to present in NYFW. One of the first to apply Graphic design in clothing in a way that it would play with your eyes as if you are looking at a Salvador Dali painting. With Custo Barcelona you have to focuser on the details.

I love dressing the mannequin  mans collection also I think its one of the best men clothing line for a guy who wants to stand out and be unique in his own way. One who is not afraid of prints and colors and if you aren’t so convinced I would recommend that you start by combining one Custo Barcelona article you bought with something  clean and plain that you already have in your closet. like a nice Custo Barcelona printed shirt with a nice clean pair of worn out jeans. Cant wait to see his next fashion show …Good people to work with. And yes I am wearing a Custo Barcelona winter collection called Candice long made with linen so it keeps you warm during the cold season this designer thinks a lot about the details remember .

NYFW Nicholas K fall 17/18

A unique way to find a feminine goddess touch in a very masculine world. This collection is what hip hop, old school, new york loving and urban wear lovers are looking for. You can also easily find your place in this collection, whether you are a hip hop fan or not. To me this designer is trying to  make going back in time cool and fun. The black, red, rusty, and gold tones and details played well as it stood out the most with the idea of sending off a street vibe. The models had a very clean face, very little makeup which is great, so it focuses on the accessories and the texture of the outfits . Very little use of print but when it was done it was in such a way that it gave you the impression of a golden snake or an urban massai. Velvet also played a big role in this collection so it looks like we will repeat the velvet theme next year. this collection was not something you never saw but the idea of using these colors, layers, knots and  textures in the right places made it stand out.so I would like to say its a thumbs up for Nicholas k. fall collection. I can see the next generation of hip hop, urban artist who choose t o identify with the past wear this as much as I can see a mature classy woman  wear it has no specific audience.

Traveling state of mind

Have been out for a minute. Barcelona one of my favorite cities my second home ….as if I have a first one lol, val is a citizen of the world. I consider Spain especially Barcelona one of the best fashion cities. it inspired lots of great people through out history and can do the same for you if you are looking to unblock your  creative juices and get new ideas. Old, new and colors it gives you what you need. the best getaway for a painter, architect, chef, fashion designer, and you name it. nature, gastronomy, architecture. I always tell people Barcelona is everything in one.
